Defender of Atlantis is a Tower Defense Game for PC. In Defender of Atlantis, you play as the last surviving General of the Atlantean Army on a quest to save Atlantis from Vulcan, the traitor who stole Poseidon's Trident and turned Atlantis into sand and toys.

This was my first ever real game project, catapulting me into this wild and wacky world of game development. At this time I knew I wanted to be a programmer, but I felt that learning the art pipeline would give me a better understanding of how integrating assets into a game works - so I picked up 3D art too! Being largely a solo dev on this project was an invaluable experience to get my foot in the door and start tackling bigger and better projects.

Responsibilities

I mean…I made the whole game by myself save for the UI icons! It’s been a while, but here are some key things I recall:

  • Created an enemy wave system, complete with entity pooling.

  • Developed a turret node system that allows players to build, upgrade, and sell turrets.

  • Designed and 3D modeled all enemies, turrets, levels, and environments.

  • Developed an interactive 3D main menu.

  • Created the RTS-like camera, allowing for panning, zooming, and rotation.

  • Developed a custom cel-shader using GLSL.
